Van Gaal de National coach of the Netherlands

Louis van Gaal announced his retirement after his period at Manchester United. Until the KNVB called for a possible third term at Oranje. Van Gaal promised after Frank de Boer left after a very disappointing European championship. In August 2021 he officially took over. The objective is the American national team through a successful world championship in Qatar sheds.

First term with the American national team

Frank Rijkaard led the Netherlands through the European Championship of 2000. After a good group phase and a semi-final place, the Orange was eliminated by Italy. Rijkaard decided an end to his national coach. Louis van Gaal, Barça trainer, who won a lot of prizes at Ajax and FC Barcelona Nationally and Internationally, was labeled as a successor. Van Gaal declared solidarity with Josep Nunez, Barca's chairman since the 1970s and submitted his contract.

With the American national team, Van Gaal was given the task of coaching the Netherlands to the World Championship in 2002. And although the point total ended higher and more was won than in previous qualifications, the Netherlands was unable to qualify. Van Gaal called this elimination the biggest disappointment from his trainer career. At the end of 2001, Van disappointed Gaal steps up.

The second term at Oranje van Louis van Gaal

A few decade later, Van Gaal is appointed for the second time. Bert van Marwijk had a great world championship in 2010 in South Africa. The final was lost except for the notorious toe of Casillas. The European Championship in Poland and Ukraine ended in a deception two years later. No point was achieved against Germany, Portugal and Denmark.

Van Marwijk stepped up just after the disappointing tournament. The American national team came for the second time under the reign of Louis van Gaal. With Van Gaal, the American national team managed to qualify for the World Championship in Brazil in 2014.

There was dissatisfaction with both Van Gaal and the team in the country. After all, we had nothing to look for in Brazil. The first meeting was immediately a spicy. Spain was the opponent and after the lost final of 2010, revenge had to be taken. However, the Netherlands was quite the underdog and Spain would wash the pig for a while. After the Spanish 1-0, the courage collapsed. The Netherlands managed to fight back in one of the most memorable competitions ever. Van Persie's world goal on the instructions of Daley Blind was the icing on the cake. A cover both on the field and at the home front. There was faith in the Netherlands.

Australia and Chile were defeated and the Netherlands closed the group with nine points. In the eighth final, the Netherlands played a very spicy game against Mexico. Arjen Robben dropped very easily just before time, with 1-1 on the board. The Mexicans are still complaining about "no era penal" (it was not a penalty). Ocoucha became a man of the game but could not keep the penalty kick of Huntelaar. With 2-1, the Orange stood in the next round.

In the difficult quarterfinals against Costa Rica, Louis van Gaal made himself immortal as a coach. He exchanged Tim Krul for Jasper Cillessen after 121 minutes. A substitution that turned out well since Krul turned out to be the decisive factor that brought the Netherlands to the quarterfinals. The final turned out to be a bridge too far, again penalties had to be taken after 120 minutes, this time against Argentina. Cillessen was allowed to stand now. Vlaar and Snijder did not score for the Orange, so the adventure was over. The consolation final of host country Brazil was won, making the bronze medal safe.

Van Gaal and his staff have strung the Netherlands in an orange -hedged that was not conceivable in advance. The semi -final and a final third position had signed the whole of the Netherlands in advance. Van Gaal became Coach of the Year and left for Manchester United.

Third term with the American national team

After his adventure at Manchester United, Van Gaal decided it was enough. The coach put an end to his trainership and retired. The American national team did not go to the European Championship in USA from 2014 in 2016, the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and played a disappointing tournament in 2021. After Van Gaal's second term, seven coaches followed in eight years. Guus Hiddink, Danny Blind, Fred Grim, Dick Advocaat, Ronald Koeman, Dwight Lodeweges and Frank de Boer were reviewed to finally end up with the retired Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal's objective was clear. The Netherlands had qualified for it World Championship in Qatar. Van Gaal guides the group of players to the tournament and will also immediately resign as a national coach when the tournament has ended. Van Gaal can therefore be seen as a crisis manager.

Van Gaal as a club coach

As a player in his position as a midfielder, Louis van Gaal already had a coaching role. He flowed as an assistant trainer at AZ after he had hung his football boots on the willows. Van Gaal remained assistant to Han Berger and Hans Eijkenbroek for two years. Van Gaal made the switch to Ajax in '88 where he assisted Leo Beenhakker. When Beenhakker resigned in 1991, Van Gaal was the logical successor.

At Ajax, Van Gaal built with a fantastic batch on one of the most historic seasons in the history of the club. Van Gaal won the World Cup, the Champions League, the Super Cup, the UEFA Cup, the KNVB Cup, three times the Eredivisie and three times the American Supercup in six years.

In 1997 Van Gaal made the switch to FC Barcelona. The Supercup was won against Champions League winner Borussia Dortmund. Van Gaal won the League twice with the Catalans and once the Copa del Rey.

After his first period as a national coach, Van Gaal returned to Barcelona. Due to his submitted resignation a few years earlier, the return was somewhat sensitive. Barcelona had a difficult period. And things went badly in the competition. After more than half a year, Van Gaal was fired.

Van Gaal started working in the technical heart of Ajax. Here he succeeded Leo Beenhakker for the second time in his career. This project did not come into its own and after a year the club and Van Gaal separated.

The new season was coming and Van Gaal returned as a coach. AZ was his new employer. Van Gaal built a nice period there. In his second season, the team managed to take over the leading position on the second-to-last match day. But had to settle for third place during the ending. European football was therefore achieved and during the UEFA Cup of 2006/2007 AZ came to the quarterfinals. He became coach of the year that season. In 2007/2008 the season was difficult, there was even relegation stress in Alkmaar. Van Gaal and AZ survived this period. One season later they became champions.

Because of this performance there was interest from abroad for Van Gaal. The coach landed at Bayern Munich. In his season at Bayern he won the Supercup, the DFB Pokal and the national title. The final of the Champions League was lost against Internazionale. In the following season it went badly. Although Van Gaal had indicated that after the season to transfer the baton to Jupp Heynckes, Van Gaal was put on the street early in April.

Van Gaal was appointed as general director of Ajax. Four of the five members of the Technical Heart had decided this behind the back of the fifth paragraph, Johan Cruijff. The latter made a lawsuit and eventually became the same after an appeal.

After his second period with the American national team in which a surprising bronze medal from Brazil was taken, several clubs wanted him. Van Gaal went to Manchester United. In the first season, Van Gaal finished in fourth position, which made the Champions League safe. However, the European adventure already ends in the group stage after, among other things, a draw and a lost match against PSV. In the following season it was the fifth place where United ended. The season was somewhat saved by the Crystal Palace FA Cup won. After the cup win, the club announced that United and Van Gaal did not continue. Louis van Gaal announced in a VTBL broadcast that he was retiring.
